Good Vibrations

Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations" could be the anthem of my childhood. That song got me moving with happiness and pure joy. As a lucky kid, with a happy childhood, it matched my vibration and allowed me to move without inhibition. It made my soul come alive.

Flash forward to 26. I was in the best shape of my life and was feeling pretty good about my outward physique. I was on vacation visiting my best childhood friend in downtown St. Petersburg, FL. We were going out, it was a Friday night, two attractive, single girls; it could be a great night.

Instead, it was as if I was a man repeller: conversations ended quickly, after only a brief exchange.

Finally, my friend stated the obvious - my energy was off. She asked what was wrong, but I shrugged it off and blamed it on the travel. I felt guilty I was ruining the night, but I wanted us to have a good time, so I drank more, hoping it would mask whatever was going on with me.

The thing is that I was stuck in a rut for so long that I didn't realize how unhappy I was or how really off-putting my energy was.

Drinking to numb is never a good idea. My energy didn't improve. I got sloppy and emotional. My friend realized this night was quickly going nowhere pleasant and made an executive decision to call it a night.

The moment we got home, the feelings I had been suppressing rose to the surface and poured out. We blared Carly Simon, and I danced cathartically, allowing my angry vibration to release.

My friend and I enjoyed the rest of the weekend together and ended up going out another night. I am happy to report we had a great time, filled with interesting conversation with new friends.

Vibes really are everything. The way you feel inside attracts more of that feeling to you. If you feel joyful, you will attract more joy. If you feel down, like I did in FL, you will attract more of what is keeping you down. Abraham Hicks says that it is impossible to attract energies counter to how you feel.

So check in with yourself. This is Self-Care 101.

Are you happy? Awesome!

Are you miserable? Not so awesome!

Until your vibration is higher, you will keep attracting misery.

So do some work - get to the root of your misery, anxiety, stress, etc. Process and work through it. If you need to, dance like I did or sing through it or just choose to move on! Choose a new feeling. Choose a good vibration.

Here are some self-care tips to raise your vibration:

  1. Meditate
  2. Take a bath with a specialty Pursoma soak.
  3. Journal in your Moon Divas Guidebook.
  4. Take a Yoga class; consciously choose if you need a luscious, restorative class or an active vinyasa.
  5. Dance cathartically.
  6. Rest if you are tired or overwhelmed.
  7. If you're feeling depressed, go for a walk to get in the sunshine.
